Malcolm sets sail on his circumnavigation of British Isles

Published 14:04 on 22 Jul 2025

Malcolm's circumnavigation of the British Isles - Homeward Bound

Having set off from his mooring in Itchenor, Chichester back in early June to start hisanti-clockwise circumnavigation of the British Isles Malcolm is currently in Arklow, County Wicklow, Ireland, waiting for the next weather window to set sail for Rosslareand to cross over to the mainland to begin his final leg back to the South Coast and Langstone Harbour, hoping to be back in time for the October lift out.

And it has certainly been an adventure!! Malcolm has faced many challenging sea conditions and visited some amazing places. In particular, the stunning views and rugged terrain of Scotland have been real highlights including his visit to Arran with Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland and the I.O.M to watch motorcycle racing being stand out moments. And, as you would expect, there have been a number of challenges on the way - numerous miles of solo helming into strong headwinds to then be weatherbound in ports for days on end waiting for better conditions to be able to get going again.

So, with just a few weeks to go we look forward to welcoming Malcolm safely back to Solent waters and hearing all about his incredible journey.

Malcolm sets sail on his circumnavigation of British Isles

Unable to join us on the cruiser rally programme this year LSC member, Malcolm Brent has a worthy excuse. He is otherwise engaged, undertaking a circumnavigation of the British Isles!!

Having set off at 6.00am on the 15th June from his mooring in Itchenor Reach. Malcolm is 3 weeks (at the time of writing) into his anti-clockwise journey and making good progress having visited a number of harbours already, including, Ramsgate, Harwich, Southwold, Wells and is now weatherbound in Amble, Northumberland. Next stop Lindersfarn.

On leaving Southwold at 01.30am in the pitch black he nearly grounded, gently nudging the piles on the way out arriving 1 hour before high water into Wells -on-sea , with an escort from the harbour master for the last part to make sure he safely arrived.

Malcolm is expecting his journey to take him in the region of 3 months, but as we know everything hinges on the weather conditions.

I'm sure Malcolm will be reading his LSC monthly Newsletter, wherever he may be, so a big shout out to you Malcolm from all at LSC, keep going and good sailing.
