NEW PADDLESPORTS AT LSC SUMMER 2021
Published 18:08 on 15 Jul 2021
As part of Langstone Sailing Club's efforts to get as many people on the water as possible, LSC is recognising the advantages that paddlesports can offer (kayaks and SUPs). Paddlesports are very complementary to sailing. Although they can be a primary recreation, the best conditions are little or no wind which means they are an ideal secondary recreation for sailors. They extend the time available over a tide as they don't need as much water as a dinghy - and the skill level required is lower than for sailing so they are more accessible.
To encourage LSC members to get involved, several initiatives have been put in place:
- Advice - we have created a Safe Paddling Plan for LSC which is available on the new Paddlesports section of the club website. Please do read this before going out : Langstone Sailing Club - Safe Paddling Plan.pdf
- Paddling together - we will add appropriate dates to the club calendar for paddlesport meets for people who would like to paddle in company. These will not be organised and will not provide safety cover - rather an opportunity for like-minded people to participate together. Wherever possible these will be set up to coincide with bar opening hours...
- Equipment - LSC has purchased 4 SUPs, 2 single Sit-on-Top kayaks and 1 double sit-on-top-kayak for rental by members. Charges are £10 per day for all singles, £15 for the double SOT kayak. Paddlecraft can be rented through the boat hire page : https://scmw.langstonesc.org.uk/page/boat-hire-1
- Storage - There are racks suitable for storing paddlecraft towards the back of the boatyard - contact firstname.lastname@example.org to book a space. Alternatively dinghy owners with a boat at LSC are able to keep their paddlecraft with their dinghy as long as it stays within the allocated space.
Please remember that although the risks are limited, care has to be taken to have a safe and enjoyable outing. Please do read the Safe Paddling Plan on the website, especially if you are a beginner and consider training through a reputable organisation such as British Canoeing or BSUPA.
If you would like more information or would like to get involved in the running of the Paddlesports section please get in touch: email@example.com , or join us for our first meeting Friday 16th July 2021 at 18:00 !
