SWIFT BOXES

Our 3 new Swift boxes are up and waiting for swifts to find them. You may have heard the swift song recording playing to attract them. A big thank you to Michelle Rossiter for sorting out the boxes and Ray Watterson for installing them.
The swift boxes, are supplied by Hampshire swifts have been installed at LSC along with, A swift call system,This plays the calls that Swifts use when in their nest site, and is used by prospecting, non-breeding Swifts to identify potential nest sites. The call system consists of a small speaker positioned in one of the box's and connects by a thin speaker cable to the player which is indoors, using a timer the calls are scheduled to play at times thought best to attract Swifts. These beautiful and charismatic birds have declined across Hampshire and the UK by approximately 65% over the past 25 years. They continue to decline at approximately 5% per annum.
